We All Have Little Quirks

~~oOo~~ Stuff About Me ~~oOo~~

I’m a single parent. I’d say blissfully single, but that might be a tad bit tacky. Just to get the awkward moment out of the way, bratlet’s father died when he was 4.

I tend to talk a lot about my kid, he’s pretty much my life, so a lot of who I am revolves around things dealing with him. I also talk about my (somewhat boring) life without mentioning the kid, my pets, and random things that catch my interest.

I have an Associates in Arts for Social Work and an Associates in Liberal Arts for Creative writing. Neither degree amounts for much, work wise, and while I *do* still take classes at the college; I’ve no idea what I want a Bachelor’s degree in. I know a lot of fun, but essentially useless stuff.

I write. It may not necessarily be good and it may not be your cuppa, but I write. It varies from original poetry and short stories to fan fiction. Yes, I have been published and actually been paid for my poetry, so some poor schmuck out there likes what I write. Currently I’m into Harry Potter, although I do dabble in other fandoms. A good portion of what I write is of an adult nature – so cavet empor (or rather let the reader beware instead of the buyer).

Conversely, I read voraciously. I will literally read anything and everything, from science fiction to real life murder mysteries, comic books and anime to historical romance, I’ll even go as far as to translate mythos in their original language because I want to read the story (lately I’ve been translating Celtic mythos from Gaelic).

I’m addicted to strange television shows, like Dr. Who, the 4400, Lost, Amazing Race, and things of that nature. I also like cartoons, though I’ve not been watching cartoon network as much as I used to since they canceled Samurai Jack.

I love to travel. I literally work so I have money to travel, and I bring my bratlet along with me on my adventures. His first trip was when he was a month old.

I am a military brat (3rd generation in fact), so I suppose that’s where my love of traveling comes from – when you’re used to moving every two years as a child, you tend to develop an affection for change.

I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up. Now, you might say that I am a grown up, but I like to think of myself as a perpetual child – I find wonder and amusement in everything, all the ‘grown ups’ I know have lost that luster. Good thing I know lots of other people like me :o).

Friending policy… I don’t really have on per se, other than preferring that you be of age in whatever country you live in, since some (okay a lot) of what I talk about is of an adult nature. You are free to add me, or remove me from your list as you desire, however, I may not reciprocate, it just depends on whether or not you and I might have anything in common. I also randomly add people to my friend list that I think might be interesting, if I do add you, you don’t have to add me back, unless you decide you want to.

~~~oOo~~~ Freedom of Speech Disclaimer ~~~oOo~~~
Some of what I write is of an adult nature, and as such carries an NC-17 rating. If the thought of adult themes, sexual situations, and the like disturbs you then either skip over that part or click out.
It is called being a responsible reader. If it is not something you would enjoy, or care for, there is nothing that stops you from not reading it. So, please, if you are easily offended, then choose to be self aware and click elsewhere.
I do not normally lock my posts, I just ramble on about things that strike my interest, bitch about my life or things I see online that catch my eye, and whine about things when I feel the need to. Anyone is allowed to comment, if they so wish, or friend if they like, though whether or not I friend you back depends on if we share some of the same interests. Some things might be offensive, occasionally things are bitchy, but on the whole, I'm not ashamed of what I have to say and I refuse to censor myself for the benefit of others. That is what the click out button is for, use it, I'm not forcing you to stay and read what I've written. If you have a problem with anything I say, well you are entitled to have that problem, but don't expect me to modify what I say, believe, or talk about just to suite your needs.
The stories posted on any of the fan fiction sites listed below, my own blogger, and this livejournal involving characters not created by me are all fictional parodies - none are true, nor are they approved of by the celebrities named or the original author of the character used in the stories. Fan fiction authors write these fictitious stories or create art about famous people and/or stories for the same reason that Larry Flynt made fun of Jerry Falwell, because they can. The Supreme Court of the United States, the country where this site is located, has ruled that parodies involving famous people are perfectly and totally legal under the United States Constitution. The specific case law on this was decided in the case of "Hustler Magazine, Inc. et al. v. Jerry Falwell" in 1988. No harm is intended toward the celebrities featured in these stories, but they are public figures and in being so, they must accept that they are fair target for parodies by the public. I believe in the first amendment, and more broadly, in the basic principle of free speech and this section may push the boundaries of that principle, but the United States Supreme Court has approved of this type of material. I believe that the Supreme Court was correct in their decision.
If you want to translate any of my work, please ask me first – chances are I will say yes, but I would really like the option of saying no.
Due to someone taking comments off a community I belong to, (these were episode reactions to a television show) compiling those said comments and then publishing those comments in a book (which he is making a profit from); I've added an addendum to my previous policy.
~~oOo~~ Icons and Other Stuff ~~oOo~~
I have just recently started making icons, mostly based on X-Men, celtic designs, and pictures from my vacations. While I am just starting out, and a lot of the icons are rather rudimentary, you are more than welcome to take if they catch your fancy. All I ask is that you a) credit, and b) let me know that you've taken them.
Programs used:
PhotoDraw V2, Micromedia Dreamweaver and Flash MX, Photoshop 7.0, and Paint Shop Pro 8 (so far, I’m only really comfortable in Photodraw).
Resources for Icons (as up to date as I can make it, and constantly under revision):
Screen cap images:
Dr Who
Time and Space by __kali__
Wicked Elf
Dr. and Companions
Outpost Gallifrey
Plus, mentioning for now:
quarkz has some lovely Dr Who icons as well… I’ve not snagged any of yet, but they are awesome
Most images have been scanned by me using my personal comic books.
Google Image
More to come as I make more icons….
Tarot Cards
A complex, courageous, intelligent woman, who may well have suffered some deep sorrow or loss. A woman who is blessed (or cursed) with sharp perception, and highly honed intuition. She is acutely analytical, with a razor-sharp ability to get to the heart of a situation, seeing exactly what is, rather than what others would wish her to see.
She is a private woman, unwilling to let people too close to her until she is satisfied she thoroughly understands their motivations. But once won as a friend, she is unfailingly loyal, honest and supportive.
She's usually very intelligent, with a dry sense of humour. Her penetrating insight will often reveal aspects of themselves to others that they had previously been unable to grasp - thus she is a capable therapist, teacher or leader. The woman represented by this card will be experienced in the flow of life, understanding a great deal about both the great triumphs, and the deepest failings of the race. Her clarity and measured expression will be of great value at times of confusion and sadness.
Divinatory Meanings: She is concerned with attention to accuracy and detail and can skillfully balance opposing factions to meet her own needs. She has attained inner wisdom and a sense of truth. The cards is one for women who have overcome adversity especially at the hands of men, to obtain a state of grace. The ability of women.
Reversed: Sorrow for the sake of sorrow. A card of wrongdoing as a reply to adverse circumstances. A deceitful, sly, intolerant and narrow minded woman, expert in the use of half truths and quiet slander. A formidable enemy due to her subtlety and sharp intellect.
The Queen of the Thrones of Air: The Queen of Swords
Here we see the Queen of perception and insight. It's a hard thing to pull the wool over the eyes of somebody like this - they will look beyond the face we present and see to the very core of the being. That's one reason why this Queen often represents a woman who stirs deep and complex reactions in the people who come into contact with her. They can feel uneasy, discomforted and awkward when being observed by her. But they may also feel open, relieved and glad to have found somebody with such long sight.
On a day ruled by her, we need to practise our own powers of perception. Rather than dealing with the imaginal psychic quality which is rightly the realm of the Queen of Cups, we must now turn our attention to the everyday world. For, though the Queen of Swords is often highly spiritually developed, she is also absorbed by the intricacies of the process of life. Therefore she looks closely at what happens in life around her.
On this day, try to remind yourself to study the interactions you have with others. Don't just deal with the face value. Struggle to seek behind that mask for the whole being beyond.
Everybody takes up roles, plays out games, displays masks. We have 'professional' faces, which fit each of our roles. And we can become forgetful of the fact that every person we meet does the same thing. Only when we come to know a person well do we recognise the complexity that lies behind the mask.
Recognise yourself when you take up a mask. Know that at this moment you are acting like (for instance) a working person doing their job, or a family member loving the family, or a person alone and taking a bath. Look hard at yourself. You take up roles. Use this day to begin to identify them clearly. Examine the way that you feel differently in each situation. And recognise that though each of those roles is an expression of you, not one single one of them IS you.
